JEWELRY CARE GUIDE

WHAT IS GOLD-FILLED?

  • Gold-filled jewelry is a layer of gold, bonded through heat to a brass core. This is different than gold-plated jewelry which is a tiny layer of gold (usually dipped) over metal. Gold plating will eventually wear. Gold filling though, with proper care, can last a very long time. Gold-filled pieces have 100 times the amount of gold vs. gold-plated/dipped. When it comes to quality and durability, only solid gold can beat gold-filled jewelry.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELRY:

  • We recommend cleaning your gold-filled and sterling silver pieces. Water and a mild dish soap can help keep jewelry looking brand new. You must dry them thoroughly as water left on metal can  easily wear it out.
  • Use an anti-tarnishing cloth that quickly and easily cleans up your gold or silver jewelry.
  • Proper storage is very important when you are not wearing your jewelry. More air=faster oxidation. If you want your jewelry to last, put it in an airtight bag. We get that jewelry boxes are beautiful, but the more air that is allowed to touch the jewelry, the faster it will oxidize. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR STERLING SILVER ESPECIALLY.
  • Gold-filled jewelry is very forgiving. You do not need to do all of the steps above daily, but we recommend following these if you’d like to keep your jewelry great for years to come!
